Commenting, Roger Williams MP said:

“During my visit to Ystradgynlais hospital I called in on the out patients clinic which was very busy, the medical ward and the Elderly, Mentally Infirm facility. There is so much going on in Ystradgynlais hospital with the retention of the Minor Injury Unit and shortly to be joined by the day centre for the elderly and the Larches, which is the Community Psychiatric Centre is being relocated to the hospital to ensure that all support services are available at one point. I also met with Christina Thomas, a nurse practitioner, who took me around the hospital.

“I am pleased the x-ray unit is operating and I have explored with Powys Local Health Board the opportunity of them doing more procedures, such as scans for pregnant ladies which could be then transmitted digitally to the maternity clinics in Morriston and Singleton Hospitals.

“While we were there we met Lyn Anne Wright, the Red Cross service co-ordinator, who works with volunteers to ensure that people leaving the hospital have the necessary support while they recover fully from their illnesses or accidents. The Red Cross is absolutely essential to ensure that people do not occupy hospital beds for any longer than is necessary and so people with more severe and acute conditions can be admitted to a local hospital in their community. I will be meeting with the Red Cross volunteers shortly after Christmas to thank them for all their work.

“I then went on to visit Cwrt Enfys Care Home, which provides residential care for the elderly and for some of the more profoundly ill older people. I was taken round by Mrs Karen Beech, the Home Manager, and talked to many of the residents and wished them a Happy Christmas. The home that is run by Hallmark Care Homes has improved so much in recent years and it was a joy to see theresidents cared for so generously.”
