Top businesses across Brecon & Radnorshire met with the Lib Dem Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Vince Cable MP. Meeting with Brecon based manufacturer Nerak-Wiese, debunking the myth that Britain doesn’t make anything anymore was at the top of the agenda.
Vince Cable joined local Welsh Lib Dem MP Roger Williams as they toured one of our local success stories, Nerak-Wiese. Nerak provides conveyor belt solutions to top firms such as John Lewis, Wrigleys and Cadburys. Since 2005 Nerak-Weise have been exporting their products to China and the middle east.
Roger Williams, the Welsh Liberal Democrat MP for Brecon & Radnorshire, said:
“Success stories such as Nerak-Wiese prove that it is just a myth that Britain doesn’t make anything anymore. In Government the Liberal Democrats have made it their priority to make this recovery about jobs, exports and manufacturing. Government should do everything they can in order to help these businesses grow and expand. This is why I have supported measures such as cutting Employer National Insurance Contributions worth £3.1 million and exemptions for contributions for employees under 21 supporting 4,870 young people’s jobs an investment of £15million.
“This is a total investment of more than £18million to support small and medium enterprise helping them grow and create jobs across Brecon & Radnorshire. It is clear we can go much further to support these businesses, and more can be done to support new start-ups. We know the tax burden VAT poses for many small businesses who are just starting up needs to be investigated again to help businesses through the first few years of business.”
