The Welsh Liberal Democrats have welcomed a landmark moment in Welsh education as Welsh Liberal Democrat Education Minister Kirsty Williams has published the revised Curriculum for Wales guidance.
The guidance will be accompanied by an extra £15m to support teachers to implement the new curriculum.
The new curriculum is all about empowering teachers to decide what will help their learners become ambitious, ethical, enterprising, creative, healthy and confident citizens.
The guidance has been revised following extensive feedback from the draft curriculum published in April 2019 - it is simpler, shorter and gives every school in Wales the opportunity to design their own curriculum within a national approach that ensures consistency.
Kirsty Williams, Welsh Liberal Democrat Assembly Member for Brecon & Radnorshire, said:
“This is a huge landmark for Welsh education. I am proud that we are leading the way on education reform and have created a curriculum that gives our young people the knowledge and skills they need to become rounded citizens of Wales and the world.
“This is an exciting milestone for education in Wales. I’m pleased to have announced an extra £15 million to ensure our schools and teachers are fully able to deliver this crucial next step.”
